Woodbury High School Dance Team

One word to describe these cakes: Huge.

These were seriously the largest sheet cakes we have ever made. The WHS Royals Dance team was having their end of the year banquet on Sunday evening and asked us to make their cakes. We made this first cake for the team:

We had several different textures for the stars.

And then there was this monster. A marble cake covered completely in blue frosting with white pearls to signify each piece. It was large.

Tartan Cake Pops

Awhile back we made some Tartan Cake Pops for our cousin Brady's last hockey game of the season. I had a posted drafted for the week after we made them but came to realize we didnt take any pictures and thought it would be a pretty boring post. However, this week I was look through my cell phone and came across a picture of them. So here you have it, Tartan Cake Pops. Good job Brady, we are so proud of you and your killer moves!

Double-Chocolate Chip Cookies

I took a stab at some double-chocolate chip cookies last weekend and took two crappy pictures. The cookies turned out a lot better than the pictures, but I wouldn't recommend these without a glass of cold milk.

Pistachio Bark

This past weekend I made some pistachio bark. I had seen something similar recently and wanted to try my hand at it. Bark is seriously the easiest thing ever to make. First, I melted chocolate in a double-boiler:

Isn't my double-boiler the cutest? One of my favorite Christmas presents :)

Then I shelled and chopped up some pistachios:
I then mixed some of the pistachios in with the melted chocolate and poured the mixture onto a pan. I sprinkled the remaining pistachios over the top, and placed the pan in the freezer for about 20 minutes. The result was a mix of salty sweet with my favorite nut and dark chocolate. And since I'm the only one around here who seems to enjoy dark chocolate, I made the bark using white chocolate as well. The white had a much better response all around. I recommend it :)

Donna

Tyler's wonderful mother Donna, found some gingerbread men earrings at Kohls and got them for me. Aren't they the cutest thing ever? Can't wait till its Christmas season again so I can wear these!

50

I think we deserve a prize for Worst Daughters of the Year. It was our wonderful father's 50th birthday last Monday and we didn't bake him a darn thing. The plan was to make Special K Bars, because they are his favorite, but I got sick and Krista just got back from Arizona, so it didn't happen. Father didn't seem to mind because it saved him a few extra calories and trips to the gym.

Last week, we made some 50 cake pops for our cousin Tammy. She got them for one her coworkers who was turning the big 5 - 0. I thought it was a perfect time for a photo op for our father to document this big milestone.

Doesn't he look so happy to be 50?
This picture is for you, Uncle Rick!

Krista wanted to get in on the picture action

These cake pops were pretty simple. Dark chocolate candy melt and buttercream frosting for the 50s.

Just a side note - everytime I say the number 50 it makes me want to break out in song with "Fifty nifty United States..." flashback to elementary school anyone?

Snickerdoodle Muffins

Tyler and I are heading back to Appleton for the weekend. Since I haven't been feeling the greatest I was just going to whip up a batch of Special K Bars, but I was feeling ambitious last night and decided to try a new recipe.

Another Kelly favorite is Snickerdoodle cookies. I found a recipe for Snickerdoodle muffins and thought these might be a good alternative to cookies. I whipped up a batch last night and let me tell you AMAZING! After some sampling we decided these taste best fresh out of the oven. Hopefully they are a hit in Appleton!

Snickerdoodle Muffins

Just like a cookie, but you can have these for breakfast!

Just a side note, the muffin liners were light green with darker green polka dots. I was trying to channel the St. Patty's Day spirit. If only the picture did them justice.

St. Patty's Day!

Happy St. Patty's Day Holy Hannah followers. I would say we definitely failed in the festive baking for the holiday. I am coming over a head cold and sore throat and Krista was basking in the Arizona sun. I think Krista is the winner.

Last weekend I did however have the chance to use some new candy melt we found. Its really nothing that exciting but we will be using this for a large wedding order in May! BLACK candy melt. We have tried coloring our own and it always turns out a grayish color, so we were ecstatic to find pre-colored bags.

I did a test run with the black candy melt for my cousin Blake. He requested yellow cupcake pops decorate in honor of St. Cloud State. Blake's two older siblings, Brandy and Maddy go to St. Cloud State and they were going to be lucky recipients of some cake pops. Blake is such a nice brother!

Red Jimmies

I ran out of Red Jimmies so a few lucky cake balls got doused with red sprinkle dust

Rainbows

Teresa's daughter Aliana turned 5 years old last week. Her birthday cake request was rainbows or flower or a combination of the two. Krista and I did a little brainstorming and decided to return to our roots. In our very first baking class we made a rainbow cake. Do you guys remember these babies?

It was fun to go back and recreate this cake. We were much faster this time around and Krista's writing has improved tremendously. Made a few tweaks to make the cake super girly.

Happy Birthday Aliana!

Aliana was in heaven when she saw her cake. And if you can believe it she drew a rainbow just like her cake last week! Kids are too cute!

Yoda

Our cousin Teresa contacted us to make birthday cakes for her kids.

Her son, Austin, was turning the big 8 and requested a Star Wars cake. Nothing in particular it just had to be Star Wars related. Krista and I were dumbfounded. We know nothing about Star Wars. We truly didn't even know where to begin.

After doing a little googling we Krista decided to try her hand at free sketching Yoda on the cake.  I was quite impressed with her skills and so was Austin. His reaction was priceless when he saw his cake. So glad we could make his birthday a happy one!

This was our first cake we have made in awhile and it felt good! We were able to work pretty efficiently and see our improvements we have made over the past year.

Birthday Cupcakes

Have you missed us? Did you all think we were on a baking hiatus? Well last week was more of a prep week for a large order of cupcakes for Friday, a couple birthday cakes for over the weekend, and an order of cake pops.

Our Favorite Auntie Shannon generated some business for us through one of her co-workers. Amy hit a big milestone over the weekend and had a birthday celebration Friday night. We made 5 dozen cupcakes for her big party. It was a lot of work but well worth it in the end. The results were fabulous.

Our creativity was allowed to wander pretty openly, the only rules were half yellow, half chocolate cupcakes (check), color scheme white, silver, and hot pink (check). I think we hit it right on the head!

We made cute table tents for the party

These ones definitely took the most work
But aren't they amazing?

This was the most cupcakes we have made so it was a great challenge! Holy Hannah's was very happy we could help celebrate your birthday Amy!

March

Can you believe it, it's already March 1st? This year has gone by so fast! Both of us are super busy with our full time jobs as well as Holy Hannah's business. We could not be more thrilled!

Just a quick note, the Recipe of the Month has been updated. Since we went on sugar cookie baking streak in February we decided to share Breanna's favorite Sugar Cookie recipe. Enjoy!

Lets hope Spring arrives before we know it, bake cupcake cookies and eat them too!
