Bethany Lynn

Little Bethany Lynn made her journey back to school at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire on Sunday after a 6 week hiatus also known as Christmas break. She requested white cake balls upon her departure and we didn't let her down. We made these as girly as possible and tried to put a slight Valentine's day spin on them. Pretty cute, right?

We miss you Bethany Lynn, come back soon :)

More about butter...

We seem to talk about butter quite a bit on this blog but I just can't help it, I have to share this. My roommate accidentally bought little butters! The butter on the outside looks like any other box of butter, but the sticks are cut in half. So instead of 4 1/2 pound sticks, you get 8 1/4 pound sticks. Aren't they cute?? :)

Slight Obsession

Our cousin Brock turned 4 on Monday. For his birthday he received 2 Toy Story Books, a Toy Story Hat, a hat throwing Woody figurine, a Buzz Light Tie-Blanket and a Buzz Lightyear cake from his two favorite cousins. You could say he has a slight Toy Story obsession. But we were happy to make this adorable cake that turned out a lot better than we expected!

We were worried a lot of the details in Buzz's buttons and face would get lost.

Happy Birthday Brock Raymond!

Hello Kitty

Our little cousin Katelyn turned 5 this past weekend and requested a Hello Kitty cake to complete the party. This cake was actually really easy to make and Katelyn was very pleased with the turnout.

Famous Update

A few of our avid followers asked for the magazine article to be uploaded so they could read it. So without further ado here it is

Holy Hannah!
Two sisters bake tasty treats and build a business.

Inspired by their mutual love of baking, as well as the demand from family and friends, local sisters Emilee and Krista Duffey started their own business: Holy Hannah's Bakeshop. They work mainly from their own kitchens in addition to holding down full-time jobs. Coming up with the name was easy, says Krista: "Holy Hannah is a common phrase in out house, much like 'Holy Smokes!' And who doesn't love a good alliteration?"
While both of them have a hand in the business, each sister handles a different aspect. Emilee is the better baker and is business-savvy, while Krista is crafty. She ensures their treats look as good as they taste, and also handles the graphics and design of the blog.
The ladies have been rapidly gaining customer through word of mouth and connections in Woodbury. In the future, they hope to open their own shop. "We hope to be in the business for wedding cakes, birthday treats and everyday indulgences," Emilee says. They're even thinking of bringing "Cake on a Stick" to the Minnesota State Fair next August. Go to holyhannahs.blogspot.com to check out their recipe-of-the-month posts and to place your orders.

Well, their you have it! Our fifteen minutes of fame...we are hoping its not over yet!

Christmas in January

Since the magazine article came out, more business has been generated for Holy Hannah's! Krista and I are very excited about all the opportunities and cannot thank our supporters enough!

We were lucky enough to be able to use the second gift from our brother-in-law JB. Last week I posted about Mini Cake Bites and the sweet baking pans we got. Well check these out!

Holiday Sprinkles
Now that picture doesn't do them justice but they are festive, holiday sprinkles. Next Christmas we are going to have the coolest cookies and cake pops around!
Here is an up-close look at what sprinkle is in each container

Stockings

A friend of the family was celebrating Christmas last weekend and ordered some Santa Hat cake pops and Frosty cake pops as well as some cake balls. We thought this was the perfect chance to use our new sprinkles, thank goodness we didn't have to wait until next Christmas!

Holiday Cake Balls
We used green candy melt, accented with white stripes and topped off with the stocking sprinkles. To Die For!

Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes

So our oldest sister Breanna was in charge of bringing a birthday treat into school with her. Her original idea was snickerdoodle cookies but she changed her tune and decided she wanted to bring in Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes. Nothing like a complete 180.

Off I set on this little adventure because I had not a clue what I was doing. No instructions, or recipe to follow. Breanna gave me a short synopsis over the phone and I went with it.

I made the famous chocolate cake and put them in muffin tins with liners. I then put the ice cream cone in them and baked them. Well the batter didn't really get into the cone so it wasn't the exact look we were going for.

We crumbled up the cake and filled the cones. Now we were on the right track.

Cake in an Ice Cream Cone
Swirled vanilla frosting topped with sprinkles and we were in business! Absolute to die for Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes!!

Ice Cream or Cake?

Check out how excited Breanna was with the final result!
Not dorky at all
Ignore the one on the right - that one had an accident...

What kid wouldn't want one of these??
And it wouldn't be right if we didn't sample the treat!

Championship Bars

So after much discussion we came to the decision that my mother's beloveded Championship Bars would be the next feature for our ROTM. She was even so lucky I whipped up a batch just for her. And you all are all so lucky because I took step by step pictures on how to make these delicious treats!

First things first these are the ingredients you will need

Flour, Brown Sugar, Egg, Butter, Sweetened Condensed Milk, Vanilla, Chocolate Chips, Nuts

Start by combining the flour and brown sugar

Cut in the cold butter until the mixture is smooth
So now i need you all to use your imagination and picture mixing in a 1/2 cup of chocolate chip to the butter/flour/sugar mixture. Of course I couldn't do the whole thing with all pictures necessary.
Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 cake pan. We didn't have any clean cake pans so I used a smaller pan. The result being the bars were a smidge gooey, but still delicious. Bake for 15 minutes or until a light brown
While the crust is baking mix together the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla, and an egg
Add in the remaining chocolate chips and nuts
Once the crust is baked pour the liquid ingredients over the crust and bake for another 20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
Perfection
Cool, cut, serve and enjoy (and make sure you share with my mother)!

Gooey
So good my mother even ate an outside piece!
Well here is what you have all been waiting for, my mother enjoying her Championship Bars! She had such a good night - she won at bingo and got one of her most favorite desserts!

Famous

Have you picked up this month's issue of the Woodbury Magazine?? If not, I highly recommend you get yourself a copy and flip to page 6. Editor Debbie Musser, and the nice folks over at the publication were kind enough to feature Holy Hannah's Bakeshop in their January issue. We are so grateful for their kindness and support!

Whole Milk

So before Christmas I had the Thursday and Friday off of work. I had all these plans to do tons of baking and making yummy delicious treats for my friends and family. Well I made most of the treats on my list but I never made it to the Cinnamon Rolls I had in mind for Christmas morning. So with my expiration date approaching I decided to find any recipes I could that called out for whole milk.

Whole Milk
First thing to make was the cinnamon rolls! I need to have a little more patience for the rising dough. But they tasted delicious nonetheless.

Cinnamon Rolls

My family had no problem devouring half the pan fresh out of the oven. But who can blame them? They are the best that way!

Half Eaten
I came across a yellow cupcake recipe with this unique chocolate frosting so I decided to try those. The people at my work were the guinea pigs and seemed to enjoy them.
Slew of Sticky Chocolate Cupcakes
Perfection!
The frosting was pretty runny and sticky so it made some cool effects along the sides of the paper liners. I thought this cupcake was pretty cute.
MN Snowdrifts anyone?

So that's what I did with a half gallon of whole milk. As you can see from the top picture I still have more than half of it to go. Homemade mac and cheese might be on the dinner agenda for tonight!

Mini Cake Bites

So our awesome brother-in-law was out and about and came across these baking pans. One was a mini sheet pan and the other was this mini cupcake pan (the coolest thing ever!) He also got us some pretty nifty sprinkles that are for the holiday season.

Mini Cupcake Pan
So this past weekend I baked four batches of my chocolate cake and decided to try out our new cupcake pan. I mean who doesn't love a mini piece of cake covered in frosting and sprinkles?

Mini Cake Bites
Lately I have had this obsession with all of the sprinkles we own. Currently we have baking stuff all throughout the Duffey household. We have a cupboard in the kitchen, a bookshelf in the front room, and essentially an entire bedroom upstairs. Its amazing at how you forget about some of the stuff you own. So I went to town and decorated each one a little differently.

We will start this picture escapade with a slew of Mini Cake Bites!

Slew

This next one was my absolute favorite. Crushed up Oreos! YUM!!

Oreos
While I was making these, Tyler John was over watching the Green Bay Packers dominate the Eagles so I decided to honor the Pack with green and gold stars.
Green Bay Packers
Brock picked out the Green Bay Packer one to eat - however he didn't actually eat the whole thing. Just the four stars and all the frosting. This little sprout is turning four at the end of January and as of Sunday requested a Batman cake (I am sure this will change about 6 more times)!
Brock Raymond
This one should be made for weddings. I think the pearls look elegant.
White Pearls

Originally I had made this one for my mother because her favorite color is purple. However, my cousin Brady scooped this one right up because he also enjoys the color!
Purple Sprinkles

Braden Matthew
Ok this is the last one, I promise. I bet you can guess what I had in mind for this mini cake bite - Valentine's Day! Isn't it precious?
Valentines Day
So there you have it! Tons of sprinkles in the Duffey house!
